Two to four conversations over about two weeks, about how you actually live: how you cook, whether the formal dining room gets used, what stays on the bathroom counter.
New builds, remodels and refreshes, planned as one house and finished room by room.
Whole-Home Design is the first of the studio’s three service groups. It covers new builds, remodels and refreshes, and it is for homes that need a full reset rather than a single room. Veronica Eckhardt founded Dress Your Home in 1993 and now runs it from Colleyville, taking projects within about 30 miles across DFW.
The idea is simple: one plan for the whole house, so every room speaks the same language, then the work done in the right order. A whole-home project can take anywhere from a month to a year, depending on what the house needs.
The same order on a custom build or a renovation. Veronica explains each step in her article on the selection process.

If an architect or builder is involved, we join early. Millwork heights, lighting plans and how a window meets a backsplash are cheaper to settle in design than in the build.
The main and secondary palettes, and the materials that repeat through the house, are set before a single fixture is chosen.
Hard finishes first (flooring, cabinetry, counters, tile, plumbing, lighting), then wall color, drapery and rugs, then furniture and accessories.
We order, track ship dates, follow up with vendors and coordinate the install sequence with the builder.
We are on site for installs. We hang the art, arrange the bookshelves and swap the pillow that isn’t right.
The Lakehouse was a full-service project, from architectural character and lighting to custom storage and styling. At the Tesoro Custom Home, Dress Your Home made the whole-home selections for the kitchen, living areas, bath and entry. Tap any photo to see it larger.

Most homeowners don’t renovate the whole house at once, and we usually recommend phases worked from one plan. Put the start of the next phase on the calendar so contractors can hold the time; we suggest a break of no more than eight to ten weeks. More in our article on renovating in phases.
Whole-home work often starts with one or two rooms and grows from there.
The kitchen, dinette and great room came first. The formal dining room became a wine room, three bathrooms followed, then the primary bedroom and bath, with the outdoor space next.
The kitchen, dining room, formal living room, office and living room, pulled into one look that flows through the house, with the daughter’s room scheduled next.
A home office that doubles as the family’s memory room, then the backyard: an outdoor living space and the pool area.
In many homes we keep and rearrange the furnishings the owners already have, and add new pieces only where they count.
